2007

Our festival is growing and improving. We have screened some of the most important new films to come out of Bosnia-Herzegovina and the region: Jasmila Zbanic's Grbavica: Esma's Secret (the winner of the Golden Bear at the 2006 Berlinale), Rajko Grlic's regional success Karaula (Border Post), Nedzad Begovic's Totally Personal (Sasvim Licno), as well as many wonderful, important works by new-generation filmmakers: Dzemal Sabic, Refik Hodzic, Berin Tuzlic, Isak Berbic and others. Our guests this year? Writer Igor Stiks, one of the most widely read young authors in the western Balkans, Ales Debeljak, the respectable Slovenian critic, essayist and poet, and the legendary filmmaker Rajko Grlic, the artistic director of Motovun Film Festival. One of the questions we had for our panelists and our audience was: what role could the Chicago Festival of Bosnian-Herzegovinian Film play in the future? How can this festival grow? We would like to involve our audience in shaping this festival, so please contact us with your feedback. What films would you like to see in the future? How could the organization of our festival be improved? Please write to us: info@chicagobhfilm.org Finally, please join us next year for the 3rd annual Chicago Festival of Bosnian-Herzegovinian Film.

2006

The first year of our festival is a big success: six narrative feature films, three feature-length documentaries, a strong selection of short films, and, most importantly, over 300 visitors per night! A few people drove in from as far as Madison, Wisconsin and Des Moines Iowa, just for our festival. We also had a wonderful time and great conversations with our guests: writer Alexander Hemon, film scholar Pavle Levi, and filmmaker Sabina Vajraca. Our audiences had an opportunity to see important works of contemporary Bosnian-Herzegovinian film, such as Pjer Zalica's Days and Hours (Kod amidze Idriza) and Fuse (Gori vatra), Srdjan Vuletic's Summer In the Golden Valley (Ljeto u zlatnoj dolini), and a retrospective of works by the veteran filmmaker Ademir Kenovic: A Little Bit of Soul (Ovo malo duse) and Perfect Circle (Savrsen krug). Just as importantly, we had an opportunity to watch the rarely-seen short films by Jasmila Zbanic, Ahmed Imamovic, Dzemal Sabic, as well as feature documentaries by Sabina Vajraca (one of the festival guests), Nihad and Sead Kresevljakovic, Marko Mamuzic and Miroslav Mandic.
