About Us

We are a collective of professionals who have gathered on a volunteer basis to organize Chicago Festival of Bosnian-Herzegovinian Film each year. We draw on our expertise from a variety of fields, including film, art, design, cultural anthropology, journalism, and literature.

It is no wonder that our festival takes place here and now—Chicago is a city with an enormous appetite for world cinema. Each year Chicago hosts festivals dedicated to distinctive international traditions such as the films of Poland, Palestine, or Hong Kong - not to mention the great Chicago International Film Festival that brings global cinema together.

In fact, each October over the past few years, the Chicago International Film Festival has featured one or two new films emerging from Bosnia-Herzegovina. We aim to build and expand upon this popularity by showing short, documentary and feature films, most from new and emerging directors, with a few pre-war classics.

The festival sponsors a roundtable featuring filmmakers and prominent writers. In addition to this, we hope to spark up a broader discussion regarding images of Bosnia-Herzegovina in film and the contribution of Bosnian-Herzegovinian cinema to the international film.

We believe our event will speak to and reflect Chicago’s culturally diverse community of Bosnians and Herzegovinians, the largest in the United States.
